Foam sponge seals (also known as foamed sponge seals) are porous, elastic sealing products manufactured by injecting a foaming agent into base materials such as rubber, silicone, and EPDM, followed by vulcanization and foaming processes. Their internal structure is honeycomb-like or highly porous, combining the characteristics of “soft elasticity + high compression recovery + lightweight.” Their primary functions include filling gaps, providing cushioning and shock absorption, and offering sound and thermal insulation. They are widely suitable for applications that require relatively low sealing pressure but also demand comfort and ease of use.
Core Features
Ultra-high compression and recovery performance: The compression ratio can reach 30% to 70%, allowing it to effortlessly fill irregular gaps and uneven surfaces. Even after prolonged compression, it slowly recovers its original shape with minimal permanent deformation (high-quality products ≤15%), continuously maintaining a tight seal without becoming rigid or collapsing due to compression.
Shock absorption and noise reduction: The porous structure effectively absorbs impact forces, providing cushioning when components open and close (such as car doors or cabinet doors) and reducing the occurrence of clanging noises from collisions. At the same time, it blocks airborne noise (such as wind noise and mechanical noise) and prevents sound wave reflections, delivering superior soundproofing performance compared to solid sealing strips.
Thermal insulation + moisture and dust resistance: The internal pores form a sealed air layer that effectively blocks heat transfer (with a thermal conductivity as low as 0.03–0.06 W/(m·K)), thereby enhancing the thermal insulation and cooling efficiency of equipment and buildings. The porous structure also prevents dust and moisture from penetrating, providing inherent waterproof performance (foam materials with no obvious surface pores offer even better results).
Soft and adaptable + protects contact surfaces: With a soft texture and delicate feel, the material typically has a Shore A hardness ranging from 10 to 30 degrees. It won't scratch contact surfaces such as metal, glass, or plastic, making it particularly suitable for sealing precision equipment or decorative components.
Lightweight + Easy Installation: With a density only 1/3 to 1/2 that of solid seals, these products are lightweight and compact, placing minimal additional load on the installation substrate. Most models can be equipped with adhesive backing or secured via slots or by sticking them in place, making installation simple and highly efficient.
Typical application areas
Construction Industry: Sealing gaps in aluminum alloy doors and windows, PVC doors and windows, curtain walls, and sunrooms; filling the spaces between window frames and walls as well as between glass panes—providing sound insulation, thermal insulation, waterproofing, and dustproofing effects, thereby enhancing indoor comfort.
Automotive Manufacturing: Sealing and cushioning for car doors, windows, sunroofs, trunks, and engine compartments to reduce the transmission of wind and road noise into the cabin. Sealing around battery packs in new-energy vehicles (using silicone or EPDM materials), balancing dustproof, waterproof performance with vibration damping.
Electrical and electronic equipment: Sealing and dustproofing of electrical cabinets, distribution boxes, LED lighting fixtures, and audio equipment to prevent dust and moisture from corroding internal components; while also providing cushioning protection to safeguard the equipment against vibration damage during transportation or use.
Household appliances: Door seals for refrigerators, freezers, microwave ovens, ovens, and air conditioners ensure efficient cooling/heating performance and prevent heat or cold loss. Waterproof seals for washing machines and dishwashers prevent moisture and steam from leaking.
Industrial Equipment: Gap sealing for mechanical equipment, cushioning seals for pipe connections, and vibration-damping seals for printing/textile machinery—particularly suitable for applications where reducing component wear is essential.
Daily and commercial applications: Sealing and noise reduction for furniture (wardrobes, cabinets, security doors); cushioning seals for elevator and subway car doors; thermal insulation seals for display cases and cold storage rooms.
